Swanage has a rich cultural heritage: the beauty of the unique coastline and town have drawn artists of international stature to paint here, including Walter Field, Charles Conder, Paul Nash, Mark Gertler, Augustus John and Graham Sutherland.
Swanage Seen celebrates this with an Art Trail - a display panel, showing the painting, a portrait of the artist and a short biography, placed on or near the site from where the original picture was painted.
Comments & Quotes“When I first heard about the art trail I was extremely excited and thought it was one of the most delightful and interesting ideas I can remember hearing about.
One of the delights of Swanage is to come upon the unexpected, and the concept of an art trail is a huge boost to our knowledge of local art history. Dorset is so full of talent and it is a pleasure for residents, artists, and visitors alike, to realise which famous artists came before us to be influenced and captivated by the whole area.
I look forward with great excitement to the completion of your project; I give you ten out of ten for thought, effort, enthusiasm, knowledge and forethought.”
